It’s been over a year since KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. welcomed Nexo in their Regional Mining Rescue Unit in Sobin. We are proud that Nexo is a part of the miners’ daily safety.
The system coordinates rescue actions during alarms. Automatically sends the rescue team into action, sends action reports to supervising institutions and is additionally an intelligent house system.
Nexo, along with the rescue team, passes weekly drills which provide a 60 second response from the moment the alarm is activated.
Being aware of the responsibilities and reposed trust we equipped the Rescue Unit’s Nexo in an auxiliary system in case the main one malfunctions. We are proud to report that there never was a need for the spare system to be activated.
We are very grateful for the Unit’s Board trust and wish rescue workers safe service.
KGHM Implementation Part II: Chamber of exercises

The second part of the implementation in the rescue unit in Sobin included track preparation for the rescuers exercises.
The track has been divided into 3 parts:
- Low decks unit with thermal chamber
- High-rise tower
- Divers pool
Nexo system installed in the rescue unit in Sobin enables simulation of various risks and difficulties occurring in the collapsed mine. Whole is controlled and monitored by the 32 " ELO touch screen. Nexo system was combined with the earlier Rapid Response System. In the case of real threat and the need to go rescue team exercises are automatically stopped and the doors are opened by releasing electromagnetic locks.

The functionality of the various parts of the track:

- Low decks track with thermal chamber
- System control: using the touch panel using the software NEXOVISION [the application allows performing exercises, cameras view and control of all system resources from the position of the touch panel].
- Lighting control: light control circuit located anywhere on the
- Smoke Providers Control: allows you to reduce to zero visibility on the exercise track.
- Monitoring: track-side cameras allow the operator to control rescuers in any part of the track.
- Thermal chamber: chamber which is part of the low-track decks, equipped with humidifiers, heaters, fire simulators, gas rates, camera and sensors in temperature and humidity, allow to obtain the extreme climatic conditions in the mine. The temperature in the chamber reaches 50 ° C and humidity 70%. Rescuers stay in such conditions for several hours or carry out simulation designated by the exercises script.
- Electromagnetic lock: During exercise, the rescuers, are closed inside the track. Mounted on the door of the electro hooks allow the operator of exercise on rapid intervention at the time of real threat.
- Buttons mounted in different parts of the track indicate the location of rescues.
- Independent control of each of the individual resources can each carry a different scenario exercises.
- Operator can simulate at any time, another kind of threat.
- High-rise tower
- The 6 floors tower is designed for exercises on the ropes.
- Monitoring: the whole is monitored by a camera placed on the tower and buttons mounted on each floor.
- Lighting control: each of the three circuits of the tower light is controlled independently from the touch panel.
- Diving pool
- A special swimming pool for exercise for scuba divers
- Monitoring: underwater camera that allows the monitoring exercise
- Lighting control: 2 lighting circuits
